The 'Right to Quality Education' programme Launched in 2009-2010, this extension activity provides academic support to girl students from a poorly equipped municipal high school, involves all the Departments and students as it has been integrated in the academic calendar. It creates a sense of responsibility and satisfaction for having contributed to the cause of quality education.
1. Objective of the Practice: To share knowledge and infrastructure facilities with the underprivileged students.

2. Need Addressed and the Context: Quality education is not possible without the basic infrastructural facilities. The Government schools and Municipal schools in the neighborhood provide free education but the poor infrastructure prohibits quality teaching learning process. With the approval of the Municipal Commissioner and the District Education Officer, 'Golusu Kondala Rao & Nancharamma' Municipal High School for Girls at Rail Pet has been adopted by the institution in 2009-2010. All the Departments in the college are involved in this activity of supporting the girls' of 8th and 9th classes in their learning process. One or two Departments and the students from Final year visit the High school as per a programme chalked out with the consent of the teachers concerned. The students demonstrate simple science experiments which are related to the learners' subject, or ask quiz questions and interact in a student friendly manner.Next, the school children visit the college under their subject teacher's supervision. They are taken round the Department labs, museums to get a clear idea of the facilities in Higher education institutes. The College students take the responsibility of explaining all the exhibits and clarifying the doubts. Each Department gets one turn in an academic year.

3. Evidence of Success: The students of the college are very enthusiastic about this programme as it gives them an opportunity to teach or facilitate. The High school girls are excited to learn by watching the experiments and visiting an established college .Their ability to understand and retain has increased. The feedback from the learners of the school, the students from the institution who acted as mentors and the teachers of the school –indicate that all are satisfied with this programme. The school girls like it as it increases their understanding, the college students like it as they get an experience of knowledge sharing and service, the teachers are happy as their learners' retention of the basics has increased.

4. Resources: The College has good infrastructure facilities. The faculty who are willing to extend support and the students who volunteer to undertake the activity make it a cost free programme.

Ecology and Environment: An educated woman is an asset to the globe through her understanding of the environmental crisis and her role in controlling it by following eco friendly measures at home, workplace etc. Sense of commitment and responsibility are created through

  • Courses in Environmental sciences
  • Study tours
  • NSS , NCC programmes,
  • Linkages with NGOs.
  • Maintaining the campus as a plastic free zone,
  • Encouraging women to use cycles instead of scooters, using public transport, car pooling among faculty creating cell phone free zones on the campus in the hostel and the library.
  • Conserving all natural resources through judicious use.
  • Demonstrations through videos of important practicals involving animals and plantsParticipatory management and involvement of students in all these activities, right from decision making to implementation. Imparting global values through curriculum.
  • Clubs like the Eco club and Water club observe and celebrate the important national and international days related to ecology and environment, have film shows, quiz and other competitions. Environmental in curriculum
  • By integrating the knowledge of sustainable development through the curriculum and by promoting several eco friendly activities like Guest lectures, Tree plantation etc.,
  • The best practices are a part of the working culture of everyone in the institution and the activities mentioned for addressing the requirements of the Ecology and Environment include this aspect too.
